the concept:
Exclusive club for golf enthusiasts

Urban Lounge Interiors reimagined a former concrete storage shed on Totara Street, Mount Maunganui, transforming it into Bunker Golf, a luxury indoor golf simulator club. As a membership-only space, Bunker Golf needed to stand apart from typical driving ranges, offering an exclusive, welcoming environment with a refined, modern aesthetic.

The client’s vision was clear: create a space that feels like a private club rather than a commercial sports facility. It needed to house two indoor golf simulators, a lounge with a kitchenette, and an area for golf clubs and merchandise. The design had to strike a balance between functionality and a warm, inviting atmosphere that appealed to both men and women.

Our approach was to subtly reflect the sport of golf without relying on obvious motifs. The interior design focused on creating a sense of comfort and luxury through thoughtful material choices, custom detailing, and a carefully curated colour palette of rust, charcoal, walnut, and bone. These tones helped soften the industrial feel of the original structure while ensuring the space felt rich and inviting.

the outcomes:

To enhance the acoustics and aesthetic appeal, walnut slatted panels were installed on the walls, reducing the echo in the expansive space while adding warmth and texture. Curved forms referencing golf course shapes were incorporated throughout:

Bunker-inspired floor cut-outs.
Arched wall paneling and paintwork.
Rounded swivel chairs, tables, and sofas.
Custom pebble-shaped wall dots and leather straps for merchandise displays.

The lounge area features rich velvet seating, a walnut-and-stone credenza, and stone-topped tables, blending modern comfort with timeless elegance. This credenza serves multiple purposes, from housing tech equipment to displaying merchandise while subtly creating a boundary for player safety.

Materials & Functionality

Given the high-impact nature of golf play, durability was key:

Simulator Flooring: Black artificial grass withstands the wear of golf shoes while blending seamlessly with the design. Green strike mats provide a clear visual marker without clashing with the overall palette.
Carpet Tiles: Heavy-duty Interface carpet tiles from the Third Space and Monochrome collections create visual interest while allowing easy replacement of worn sections. The Monochrome tiles even mimic bunker-like shapes, tying in the brand’s identity.

Lighting & Acoustics

Black acoustic panels with integrated LED strip lighting ensure a comfortable sound environment and provide soft, directional lighting ideal for golf simulation. The lighting creates a comfortable yet focused ambiance, making the space both functional and atmospheric.

Through thoughtful design, Urban Lounge Interiors delivered a distinctive space where golf enthusiasts can enjoy a premium, immersive experience in style. Bunker Golf is now a standout venue in Mount Maunganui, offering an elevated environment where sport meets luxury.
