When Tasman Tourism purchased Waihi Beach top 10 in 2020 – they wanted to elevate some of their accommodation units to encourage a premium offering. The Seaview motel unit interiors were tired, but had a prime position within the Park, with good sea views and with an upgrade would deliver a better return. Our client wanted to upgrade to a higher standard, but didn’t want to alter the building frame.
At the heart of the concepts presented is the geographic location of the Park. The inspiration was to create a relaxing space for guests to wind down, enjoy the view and also feel they were getting good value for their holiday dollar investment. Colours and materials needed to be uplifting to reflect the coastal surroundings.
Taking inspiration from the ocean – we designed custom bedheads with a photographic image unique to this site, and this became the main feature within the unit. This oversized bedhead gave the WOW, with the addition of wooden block bedsides to represent driftwood on the beach.
Changing all bedlinen to white triple sheeting, with complimenting linen cushions and waffle bed throws added to the coastal feel. A casual beach vibe was continued on to the dining tables and occasional chairs with wooden accents – and finishing off with large artwork. Existing outdoor furniture replaced with teal coloured polypropylene. The result is that the units then became lighter and felt visually more spacious .
All products we specify meet commercial guidelines and with a wealth of knowledge in this arena we have the experience to understand what products work well practically. Accommodation units such as these are well-used, and we must ensure that we recommend furnishings and fabrics that are commercially rated and easily maintained by housekeeping.
The project highlight for the Urban Lounge Interiors team has been seeing the transformation. Everyone loves a good before and after interiors project so below are the before images.
